Creative Therapies Center

The Creative Therapies Center (CTC) offers support services, psychotherapy, and coaching for individuals, groups or families who wish to participate in therapies that utilize the creative arts.  CTC is a sister organization of the Drama Therapy Institute of Los Angeles (DTILA).  At the Creative Therapies Center licensed, certified and trained professionals –including drama, music, art, dance, and poetry therapists– provide special expertise in the areas of addiction, grief and loss, ADHD, anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and more. Some of the therapists and professionals at CTC, also offer continuing education classes for licensed mental health professionals.  Many of the therapists and practitioners at CTC focus on narrative and collaborative approaches integrated with creative arts therapies and Narradrama.

The Creative Therapies Center is recognized as a Continuing Education (CE) Provider by both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).

Why Creative Therapies?

Using the arts as therapeutic medium is a transformative experience that reaches participants in a way that broadens and deepens the journey of self-discovery. Using techniques native to drama, dance, and many other creative arts, participants are able to build awareness of the connection between emotions and the body. Through creative arts therapies, people can enact roles in a way that benefits self-identity and expands world view. Dramatic expression, writing, dance/movement, poetry, and studio art activities make creative art therapies uniquely suited to the needs of a diverse audience.

As active and experiential forms of therapy, the creative arts offer a forum to put into action the goals, stories, and feelings aspired to by most therapeutic models. The inherently playful atmosphere and safety of the creative space allow participants to practice in-vivo and go more deeply into their self-exploration as compared to other approaches.

The creative arts are ideal therapeutic and educational modalities which can be used in mental health, rehabilitation, medical, educational and forensic settings, and in nursing homes, day care centers, disease prevention, health promotion programs and in private practice. They are effective for individuals with developmental, medical, social, physical and psychological impairments.

CTC is pleased to present an array of support groups, community workshops, and professional development classes to bring these valuable techniques further into the therapeutic conversation.
