Intro to Narradrama Training

Narradrama integrates the principles of narrative therapy with drama therapy and other creative arts therapies.

Our self-narrative determines how we interpret our experiences. As we become aware of different forces that shape our narratives in our lives –culturally dominant or marginalized knowledges– we can decide which stories to hold-on to and which to build our lives upon. Narratives are crucial to the formation of personal, social, and cultural identities. Our multiple identities are formed through the art of storying our experiences, sharing our stories with others and reflecting on them for new understanding. Through the process of re-authoring and re-storying, we can reinvent our lives.

Narradrama maintains an evolving, relational view of the self that is continuously developing in different social contexts. In Narradrama the self continues to be revealed through the roles we embody as well as the interrelationship between the roles and the evolving stories. The evolving personal narratives profoundly influence how participants perceive their life roles, recognize their strengths and abilities, and realize the values that shape their lives.

The Drama Therapy Institute of Los Angeles is proudly founded by Dr. Pamela Dunne, the originator of Narradrama. Dr. Dunne and her team of esteemed faculty and Narradrama trainers, offer you this exciting “Narradrama Training Program” as a new specialization program under the drama therapy umbrella.

The Narradrama Training Program is composed of two levels:

Level One, is the completion of the Narradrama Facilitator. Completing this level indicates a proficiency in the fundamentals of narradrama theory and practice and completion of the required 400 supervised hours of internship.

Level Two, comes after completing the Narradrama Facilitator. Qualified participants may wish to continue to the Narradrama Trainer, which includes additional prerequisites and classes and the completion of the required 500, supervised hours of fieldwork, supervised teaching and professional hours. Completing this level, not only indicates proficiency as a facilitator, but also as a trainer.

These two training levels, can be an excellent supplement to any professional’s credentialing.
